Inaugural Voyage

This is it! This is how all journeys embark: so slow and ponderously.

Glacier National Park, Montana, USA

I would know how journeys start because I have read about my fair share of adventures and, to be perfectly honest, been on my fair share of my own. I grew up with Martin the Warrior and Reepicheep. I followed Harry, Hermione and Ron through the corridors of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I graduated from those halls of youth to the vast worlds where dwells characters as powerful as Rand Al’ Thor and as noble as Aragorn son of Arathorn. I sailed the oceans alongside the likes of Long John Silver and plotted magnificent cons with Locke Lamora. Now don’t be alarmed if these names mean nothing to you; I have content for you as well…but for those of you who do recognize these names; I know that they have inspired you the same as they have inspired me. They have charged my imagination and dared me to create worlds as complex and exciting as their own. This page, my page, is a place where I can unleash the fury of my imagination. I can share with you the plots and characters that have journeyed back and forth through my mind. You will find stories, both long and short, that will take you on wild chases in storm-washed seas, stories that will make you weep for the tragedy of loss and the strife’s of war, and stories that will make you fall in love alongside raw and gritty characters. For those of you who know those names, I give the gift of fantasy to you. Judge it how you will but remember that the simple act of creation is divine in and of itself.

For the rest of you, those of whom do not like to wash your minds with another’s daydreams; I have something else in store for you. I grew up with those characters. They taught me to that the slow and ponderous beginnings are one of the hardest parts of any journey but if you cannot take that first step outside of your comfort zone then you are already lost to life. I heeded their words. I have traveled distances both long and short seeking roads less traveled. For you, my reality-grounded peers, I can spin webs of words about the true places I have been. I can bring you along with word and picture to the fantastic places I have stood, the places that scream at you to breathe in the marvels of this world. I can introduce you to the network of lifelong friends that I have met on long lonely trails and in busy bustling cities. You can share in the adventures and live in my memories. These are my stories, most of wish are not embellished, some of which are, and all of which are sure to excite you.

And for our last niche crowd. For those who have had their own adventures and mine, whether fantasy or real, hold no interest with you; I have music. That great unifier will hold you close. Words are my medium and what better way to share them with an accompanied melody. I have written songs, some of which I am even proud of. And this will be a place that I can share them with you, a place that Shots to the Sky and Mistaken Muse can be housed.

See! I have brought a little something for everyone! At least everyone who is fascinated by the written and sung word and thirsts for adventure. This is my medium. Take from it what you will. If you like it, follow. And if you know of someone who will enjoy it, share.

Thus begins our journey together. Remember that this is the slow and ponderous part. This is where the unsure-footed rookie of the writing world may stumble and fall as he carefully chooses which road to follow. But dammit!!! At least he has taken that step outside his front door. And as one of the most famous writers of all time taught us: “It’s a dangerous business, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.” -J.R.R Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings.
